Work has been ‘crazy busy’ as my kids would say! But on to the good stuff.
I have a FINISH! Hurray! My wonky star baby quilt is finished! Next week I will be sending it to the happy recipients! I wish the new ‘parents-to-be’ all the best with their new little bundle of joy! As mummy and daddy both work in the entertainment industry, I have called this quilt, “A Star is Born”.
It is made from 100% organic cotton. I chose soft blues, yellows & taupes for a soothing pallet. The fabric is mostly from the Monaluna line. It has trees with birds, whales, seahorses on some of the fabric, along with some patterns and solids. I used a fat quarter pack with 10 fat quarters and purchased an extra 1/2 yard of a darker yellow (or maybe you might call it mustard) for the sashing & binding. I used the wonky star pattern (using Victoria Gertenbach’s great tutorial, found here). There was enough for 9 stars, but when I finished them, I decided I wanted to make it just a little bigger. I only had enough to make up 3 more blocks out of strips left over; I think they add ‘a little something’ to the whole quilt. The ends of the strips were also put to good use – an interesting stripe down the back and even enough left to make a matching zipped pouch for little baby essentials in the diaper bag. The binding is the darker yellow with the same striped fabric added in a couple of spots that I used for the corner squares…I a REALLY happy with is project.
Here are a few shots of the process and the finished quilt.
